Training Philosophy
Balanced training implements all four quadrants of operant conditioning and carefully chosen tools based on your dog's unique situation.
My methods communicate clear expectations to your dog. Don't do that - do this instead!
I use a million treats, toys, and tons of praise. I also use tools such as slip leads, Herm Sprenger prong collars, and E-Collar Technologies e-collars (if you think they’re abusive, you’ve seen them used incorrectly!)
I want your dog to have the best life ever, and balanced training is the best way there.
Positive reinforcement only training (sometimes referred to as "R+" or "science-based") ends up failing you and your dog because it never actually trains the unwanted behaviors out. Positive-only training takes months or even years and costs you lots of time and money. It can require that you have treats on you at all times, avoid everything that triggers your dog, and schedule your life around theirs.
I want better for you.
Balanced training provides clarity and leadership to your dog, truly training out even the worst behaviors. Every dog can be a great dog.

About
My name is Keeley Schrader, and I'm currently completing case studies for my 2026 IACP Certified Dog Trainer certification. I have my Bachelor's in Psychology and hold certificates for the IACP Prong Collar Knowledge Assessment, Providing Freedom through E-Collar Training and The Ultimate Canine Communication Masterclass by Larry Krohn, Behavioral Adjustment Training (BAT) 2.0 by Grisha Stewart, and Reading Dog Emotions by Heather Beck. In addition to my private clients, I work with two dog rescues in Okinawa to rehab and place dogs in loving homes. My motto is "There Are No Bad Dogs".
I have been training horses since 2016, and working with dogs for as long as I can remember. I moved to Okinawa in May 2025 with my wonderful husband, Bo, and my furry lifeline, Roo.
In addition to being my Service Dog, Roo holds her AKC Trick Dog Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced titles, VHMA title, and FIT DOG Bronze title. You’ll find us out and about exploring nature, doing beginner bitework, and enjoying sunsets.
